About Aonang
The village of Aonang (Ao Nang) has 8.000 inhabitants an is located 20 km west of Krabi town between the world famous limestone mountains at the coast of the sea. There are restaurants, hotels, resorts and shops, specialized in serving travelers. Nightlife is limited to discos and beer bars. Most travelers come to Aonang because of the beaches and the pier, from which boats leave to the islands nearby. Aonang beach is not the most beautiful in the region, also not the Nopprarat beach in the west of the village.
But the beaches in the east like Railey and Thongsai are more than beautiful and attract many travelers worldwide and make Aonang and Krabi known.
Aonang pier is an important place for all boats connecting the mainland with the islands of Koh Yao, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket.
Getting there: It is a 20-30 minutes drive by taxi or bus from Krabi airport or Krabi town to Aonang. Of course Aonang pier can be reached by boats. The pier is located west of the village at Nopparat beach, so a short drive by pickup cars is necessary to get to the village or the hotels nearby.
Accomodation: There are plenty of hotels, resorts and guestrooms at all rates in Aonang. Simple rooms are available as well as luxury beach resorts. It is advisable to book the better rooms in advance during peak season. The first address is the Centara Grand Beach Resort on the limestone coast with a nice small sandy beach. At the west coast of Krabi province along the sandy Klong Muang beach new luxury hotels and resorts have been opened recently. The Sheraton Krabi, the Ritz-Carlton Phalay Beach Resort and the Nakamanda Resort are some of them.
Good for: Travellers seeking for nice beaches, good choice of hotels, some nightlife and good options for island daytrips.
